PASTORAL WORKS OF THE ARCHDIOCESE
SOCIAL WELFARE CARITAS
The Social Welfare/Caritas Coordination Service of the Archdiocese of Bamenda was created in May 2007 with the appointment of Benedicta Muffuh as the Archdiocesan Coordinator of the Service. The Service was charged with the promotion of the social welfare of the people and the better organization of the Charity of the Local Church of the Archdiocese according the Encyclical Letter, Deus Caritas Est, of Pope Benedict XVI and the other relevant documents of the Magisterium.
The Archdiocesan Youth Ministry
The Archdiocesan Youth Ministry is coordinated by the Archdiocesan Youth Chaplain. The youth groups are organized in an Archdiocesan Youth Federation whose main aim is to coordinate the activities of young people in the Archdiocese. The Youth Chaplain is assisted by a Youth Formation Team and a Youth Council, Deanery and Parish Youth Chaplains or Advisers.
The Archdiocese of Bamenda has also been in partnership with the Archdiocese of Florence, Italy. Through this partnership, three Fidei Donum Priests from the Diocese of Florence, Italy had the opportunity to work in the Archdiocese of Bamenda for some years before they were finally withdrawn due to the shortage of Priests in Florence.

There are 136 Diocesan Priests incardinated into the Archdiocese of Bamenda working along with the Religious and Diocesan Priests from other Dioceses. Since 2014, 68 priests have been ordained for the Archdiocese of Bamenda. We render immense thanks to God for the increase in the number of vocations to the Priesthood. At the same time, we still acknowledge that, in spite of the increase, some parishes still have just a single priest to minister to them which means that there is still more need for priests.

The Agency runs 39 Nursery Schools and 148 Primary Schools. There are 13 Catholic Colleges in the Archdiocese of Bamenda, 5 of which are owned and run by Religious Congregations.

THE MARYVALE INSTITUTE
Paul VI Memorial Pastoral Centre was established quite some years ago before the period of this Quinquennial Report and it provides accommodation for the clergy, religious and laity for spiritual and pastoral activities. It also renders services to non-Church organizations. From the last Quinquennial Report, we have constructed and consecrated a befitting chapel and a hall for the Centre. The chapel also serves as a Mission Station church of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Nta’afi.
The Archdiocesan Health Coordination Office. created on 31 October, 1999.
This service was created on 31 October, 1999. There is an Archdiocesan Health Coordinator and a Medical Doctor who consults in the outreach health centres. The Archdiocesan Health Centres are directly the responsibility of the Coordination Office and are visited monthly for Doctor’s consultation and more often when deemed necessary. Staff meetings of the Health Coordinating team are held monthly. Supervision of 24 Health Facilities in the Archdiocese is carried out twice yearly.
FAMILY LIFE OFFICE
Activities of the Family Life Apostolate in the Archdiocese can be traced back as far as the coming of the faith into this area, considering the efforts of individual Priests encouraging young men and women to get married in Church in order to form Christian Families.
The Archdiocesan Family Life Office is run by a Director couple who promotes and coordinates all the arms of the Family Life Apostolate and has the following responsibilities:

The Director of Communications
The Director of Communications is responsible for the formation of the Social Communication Commission at all levels of the Archdiocese (Small Christian Community, Mission Station, Parish, Deanery, Archdiocesan). Each of these services has their manager, but all of them fall under the direct supervision of the Director of Communications.

Catholic Archdiocese Of Bamenda History
When the Diocese of Bamenda was created on 13th August 1970, with territory detached from the former Diocese of Buea, it covered the whole territory of the North West Region of Cameroon and had a Catholic population of 129.984, spread over 22 parishes. On 18 March 1982, part of the diocese was carved out to form the Diocese of Kumbo, leaving the territory which became the Archdiocese of Bamenda with a new Catholic Population of 114.497, spread over 17 parishes. Today, the Archdiocese has an estimated Catholic population of about 620,513 out of a total population of 1.457.053 inhabitants.
GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
The Archdiocese of Bamenda lies between the 5th and 7th latitudes North, and between the 9th and 11th degrees East longitude. It covers an area of 10.000 square kilometres.

PROVINCIAL INSTITUTIONS IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF BAMENDA
The Archdiocese of Bamenda houses a number of Institutions of the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda for the formation of candidates for the Priesthood and for the Higher Education of the youth, as well as the Marriage Tribunal of First Instance. These are under the immediate jurisdiction of the Local Ordinary.

The statistics below about the administration of the sacraments according to the various parishes are gleaned from the Sacred Returns since the last Quinquennial report.
They show that there is a general increase as far as the administration of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation is concerned, although the statistics of some of the Parishes are not up-to-date.

He also asks us to remember the difficulties experienced by those suffering and medical staff in conflict areas and he calls on governments and health institutions not to neglect those who are suffering because of financial considerations.

The Justice and Peace Commission was established in December 2002 in accordance with the provisions slated in the Provincial Pastoral Plan. It was first established as a Commission, and functioned as such for 4 years, and was later reorganized as an Archdiocesan Service in the year 2006 with the technical competence to organize and train justice and peace workers in the field and other groups of persons to assemble and evaluate information and results of research on justice and peace concerning the development of peoples and the violation of human rights.
